How to get a steel fabrication quote

A few details that make your quote accurate.

You do not need a full drawing pack to ask us for a steel fabrication quote.

A price is only as good as the information behind it. Sizes, a finish, the site postcode and a few photos let us estimate the steel, the workshop hours and the travel properly, instead of pricing high to cover the unknowns.

Where an engineer has designed the steelwork, send their drawings and calculations and we will price to them. Where there are no drawings, tell us. We can measure up, talk through the options and help develop a design for fabrication. Structural calculations come from your structural engineer.

What to send, by job type

Six checklists, one for each kind of job.

Find the job closest to yours and send what you can. Every enquiry also needs the basics in list six, so start or finish there.

01 / Structural steel

Beams, columns and steel frames.

Send the engineer’s drawings and calculations, section sizes and lengths, connection details and the finish wanted. Tell us about access for delivery, whether you want it installed, and your programme.

02 / Gates and railings

Driveway gates and railings.

Opening width and height, what the posts fix to, and any fall across the ground. Add a photo or sketch of the style, the finish, and whether automation is planned.

03 / Staircases

Staircases and balustrade panels.

Floor to floor height, the going available and the width. Tell us the tread type, the balustrade style, and the dimensions your designer or Building Control have asked for.

04 / Welding on site

Mobile and emergency welding.

Tell us what it is, the material and what has broken, with a photo if you can. Add the location, how close we can park, whether there is power on site, and how urgent it is.

05 / Machinery

Machinery installation and moves.

Machine weight and footprint, the floor type and the route in, with door sizes and any steps. List the services to connect and the shutdown window we have to work in.

06 / Every enquiry

The basics we always need.

The site postcode, a name, a phone number or email, and the date you need it by. Photos help more than anything. A phone picture with a tape measure in shot tells us a great deal.

No drawings? Tell us

No drawings? We will help work it out.

Plenty of enquiries start with a phone photo and a rough size. Tell us what you are trying to achieve and what you know so far. We can visit, measure up and help develop a design for fabrication, working with your builder or engineer.

Sending an enquiry does not commit you to anything. Estimates are free, whether the job is a single beam in Norwich, a pair of gates in Wymondham or a platform for a factory in Thetford. The price is agreed with you before we start.

Questions about quotes

Good to know before you ask.

Do I need an engineer’s drawings to get a quote?

Not always. Gates, railings, repairs and many staircases can be priced from sizes and photos. Structural steel needs your engineer’s sizes and calculations before we can fix a price.

Is the estimate free, and what does it cover?

Yes, estimates are free. We set out the steel, fabrication, finish, delivery and installation if you want it, so you can see what is covered. The price is agreed with you before we start.

How should I send drawings and photos?

Use the quote form or email norfolkswiftfabrication@gmail.com. PDF drawings and phone photos are fine. Include the site postcode and the best number to reach you on.

What if it is a breakdown and I need a welder now?

Skip the form and call 07495 409006. We run a 24/7 call out service. Tell us what has broken, the material, where it is and whether there is power on site.
