Steel fabrication in Norwich, Norfolk

A steel fabrication process you can plan around.

Enquiry, estimate, agreement, fabrication, finishing, installation, sign off. The same order on every job.

Swift Fabrication makes and fits steelwork for commercial and domestic customers across Norfolk, Suffolk and East Anglia. Every job starts with an enquiry. Ring us, fill in the form, or send drawings, sketches or photos with rough sizes. Tell us where the job is, what the steel has to do and when you need it, and we can say early on whether it is work for us.

We then visit the site or review your drawings and give you a free estimate. The price and scope are agreed with you before we start. Nothing is cut from an enquiry alone. Sizes are checked on site first, because a beam made 10 mm too long for its opening is no use to anyone.

After your first enquiry

Priced, agreed and then made.

Once we know what you need, the job moves through three stages before any steel leaves our workshop. Each one has a clear decision for you to make.

01 / Estimate

A site visit or drawing review, then a price.

For most jobs we come out to look, measure and talk it through. Where you have an engineer's or architect's drawings we can price from those. Either way you get a free estimate that says what is and is not included.

02 / Agreement

Price and scope agreed before we start.

This is when you decide the details: sections, finish, fixings, dates and access for delivery. We agree the price and scope with you, then check the sizes on site before steel is cut. Drawings and buildings do not always match.

03 / Fabrication

Cut, drilled and welded in Norwich.

Steel is cut, drilled, welded and dressed in our workshop by qualified welders. Where the fit matters, such as a staircase or a bolted frame, we trial fit it before it leaves.

Who does what on a structural job

Your engineer designs it. We make and fit it.

Structural calculations come from your structural engineer, and Building Control approval is handled by you, your builder or your designer. We do not design or certify structures. We fabricate and install to the drawings we are given.

What we add is the making. We can help develop a design so it can be fabricated and fitted, for example where a beam needs a splice to get it into the house, or how a connection should be bolted up on site. If a job calls for a particular standard or welder coding, tell us and we will confirm what we can supply.

Finishing and fitting

Finished, delivered and fitted.

Once the steel is made we arrange the finish you have chosen. Primer, paint, galvanising or powder coating can be arranged, and the right one depends on where the steel will live. Tell us early, as it affects the date.

We then deliver and install, from a single beam into an existing building to the erection of a full frame, lined, levelled and bolted up. At the end we walk the job with you, sign it off together and deal with any follow up.

Mobile and emergency

Broken steel or plant? The process is much shorter.

Repairs do not wait for drawings. Ring 07495 409006 and tell us what has broken, what it is made of, where you are and how we get to it. We come to you with welding plant and our own power, so a farm yard, building site or factory floor is fine. Call out is available 24/7.

On site we make the job safe first, then carry out the permanent repair, either there and then or once the steel and parts are to hand. We will tell you on the phone how soon we can be with you.

How we work FAQs

Before you send an enquiry.

Will you start work before the price is agreed?

No. You get a free estimate, and the price and scope are agreed with you before we start. If something changes on site, we stop and talk to you before going on.

Do I need drawings before I contact you?

No. Photos, a sketch and rough sizes are enough to start. For structural work such as beams and frames we need your engineer's drawings before we fabricate, but we can estimate from early information.

How long does a steel fabrication job take?

It depends on the size of the job, the finish and our workload. Galvanising and powder coating add time because the steel goes away to be treated. We give you a date when we price it.

Can you weld on site instead of in the workshop?

Yes. Repairs and alterations are often quicker done where the steel stands. Our welder comes to you across Norfolk and Suffolk, and we can bring our own power if the site has none.
