01 / Quotes and pricing

Pricing your welding and fabrication work.

What drives the cost, what to send us and how the price is agreed.

Our quote checklist
How much does a steel beam cost?

The section size and length your engineer has specified, the plates, holes and welding it needs, the finish, and delivery or fitting all drive the cost. Send us the drawing or beam schedule and we will give you a free estimate.

Request a free estimate
Are your estimates free, and is the price agreed up front?

Yes. Estimates are free for commercial and domestic customers alike. Once we have the drawings, sizes or photographs we price the work carefully, and the price is agreed with you before we start.

What do you need to price my job?

Drawings or a sketch with sizes, the material and finish you want, where the job is, and whether you need delivery or installation. Photographs help a lot for repairs and site work. Our quote checklist lists everything worth sending.

Do I need structural calculations before you can quote?

For beams, columns and frames, yes. Sizes and calculations come from your structural engineer and we fabricate to their drawings. We do not certify structures, but we can help make a design practical to build.

Can you work to a smaller budget or a fixed allowance?

Often, yes. Tell us the figure you are working to and we will say what is possible. That might mean a simpler detail, a plainer finish, or supplying the steel for your own builder to fit. It is a conversation worth having early.

02 / Fabrication

Steel fabrication in our workshop.

Drawings, lead times, materials and finish.

Structural steel fabrication
Can you work from my structural engineer's drawings?

Yes, that is how most of our structural work starts. We fabricate beams, columns and frames to the engineer's drawings, with the end plates, cleats, stiffeners and holes they call for. If anything is unclear, we ask before we cut steel.

How long does fabrication take?

It depends on the size of the job, whether the steel is a stock section, the finish, and the work already in the workshop. Galvanising and powder coating add time as they happen off site. Tell us your date and we will say plainly if we can meet it.

How we work, step by step
Do you weld stainless steel?

Yes. We weld mild steel and stainless steel, including stainless pipework and flanges, using MIG, TIG or MMA to suit the material and the joint. For aluminium, ask us about the job first and we will tell you whether it is one for us.

What is a coded welder, and can you supply one?

A coded welder has passed a test to a set welding procedure, which some pipework and structural jobs require. We can supply coded welders on request. Tell us the standard or welder coding your job calls for and we will confirm what we can supply.

Can you galvanise or powder coat the steel?

We do not galvanise or powder coat in house, but both can be arranged, along with primer or paint. Tell us where the steel will live. Outdoors or near the coast, galvanising is usually worth it.

Do you make steel staircases and balustrades?

Yes, for homes and commercial buildings. Stringers, treads, landings and balustrade panels are made in the workshop as separate pieces, then assembled on site. We build to the dimensions your designer or Building Control specify.

Staircases and balustrades
Do you make architectural metalwork as well?

Yes. Alongside structural steel we make feature staircases, balconies, canopies, screens, glazing surrounds and brackets for timber and glass, in mild or stainless steel. Welds are dressed and joints kept clean, because this is steel people look at every day.

03 / Mobile and emergency

Mobile welding and 24/7 call outs.

Site repairs, power supply and what to say when you ring.

What can a mobile welder repair on site?

Plant, trailers, agricultural machinery, gates, handrails, brackets, supports and stainless pipework, plus alterations to steelwork already in place. If a job is safer or better done in the workshop, we will tell you.

Can you weld on site without a power supply?

Yes. We can bring our own power, so a farm yard, a field edge or a building site with no supply is fine. If there is power near the job, tell us when you ring, as it can save setting up time.

Mobile welding in Norfolk and Suffolk
Is the call out really 24/7?

Yes, nights and weekends included. Ring 07495 409006 and tell us what has happened. We do not promise a fixed response time. We tell you how soon we can be with you, then get there as quickly as we can.

Emergency welding call out
What should I tell you when I ring in an emergency?

What has broken, the material, where you are with a postcode, access, whether there is power nearby, and any safety concerns such as fuel, dust or people close to the work. If anyone is hurt, call 999 first.

04 / Installation and site work

Delivery, steel erection and site work.

Steel erection in Norfolk and Suffolk
Can you deliver and install the steel you make?

Yes. We deliver fabricated steel and can install it, from a single beam into an existing building to frames, mezzanines, platforms and stairs. If your builder is fitting it, we can supply only.

Who arranges the crane or lifting plant for the job?

We plan the lift as part of the job. That may mean a telehandler, a HIAB delivery or a hired crane arranged for the day. Tell us about access, ground conditions and overhead cables early.

Do you provide RAMS and work under main contractors?

Yes. We provide risk assessments and method statements for site work and are used to working alongside main contractors and builders. If your site asks for particular cards or accreditations, tell us which and we will confirm what we can supply.

Can you install or move factory machinery?

Yes. We position, level and bolt down machines, move them within or between sites, and fabricate the bases, frames, guarding and platforms around them. Work is planned around production, and out of hours installs are possible.

05 / Homes, gates and railings

Gates, railings, beams and smaller jobs.

Metal gates and railings
Do you take on small domestic jobs?

Yes. We work for homeowners as well as businesses, and a single beam, a side gate or a welding repair is as welcome as a steel frame. Estimates are free and we are happy to talk through a smaller budget.

Do you make gates and railings, and who fits them?

We make them and we fit them. Each gate leaf, post and railing panel is built in our Norwich workshop, finished, then delivered and hung on site. We handle the steel only, so brick piers, walls and groundworks are for your builder.

Can you make driveway gates ready for automation?

Yes. We do not supply the automation itself, but we build frames automation-ready. Tell us early and we agree the rigidity and bracket positions with your installer before the gates are made.

Can you supply a steel beam for my extension?

Yes. Send your structural engineer's drawing or beam schedule and we will cut, drill, weld and prime the steel beam, often called an RSJ, to suit. We can deliver it to site or install it for your builder.

Can you repair or rehang an existing gate?

Often, yes. Dropped hinges, seized pivots, broken latches and impact damage can usually be repaired on site by our mobile welder. If the gate needs more work, we take it back to the workshop.

Do you come out to measure before making anything?

Measurements and photographs are enough for a free estimate. For made to measure work such as gates, railings and stairs, we check the sizes on site before we cut any steel, because an opening is rarely as square as it looks.

06 / Areas and sectors we cover

Covering Norfolk, Suffolk and East Anglia.

See the areas we cover
Which areas do you cover?

We are based in Norwich and work across Norfolk, Suffolk and East Anglia, including Great Yarmouth, Lowestoft, Thetford, Dereham, Wymondham, Attleborough, Diss, King's Lynn, Beccles, Ipswich and Bury St Edmunds.

Do you work on farms and agricultural buildings?

Yes. We fabricate and erect steel framed agricultural buildings and lean-tos, and our mobile welder repairs trailers, machinery and gates in the yard or at the field edge.

Do you work in food and manufacturing sites?

Yes. We install and move machinery, make bases, guarding, platforms and pipe supports, and weld stainless steel pipework. Work is planned around production and your site rules, with out of hours visits possible.

Do you cover King's Lynn, Ipswich and further afield?

Yes, for planned fabrication, installation and site work. They are further from our Norwich base, so travel is planned into the job, and mobile or emergency welding that far out is by arrangement. Ring us and we will say what we can do.

Which sectors and customers do you work with?

Commercial, industrial, agricultural, construction and domestic. That means builders needing beams, factories moving machinery, farms needing buildings and repairs, and homeowners wanting gates. We also supply site welders to help contractors complete a job.
