Architectural steel fabrication
On a beam nobody sees, a weld only has to be sound. On a balcony or a canopy it has to look right too.
Swift Fabrication makes architectural metalwork for architects, interior designers, builders, shopfitters and homeowners across Norfolk and Suffolk. We work in mild steel and stainless steel, cutting, welding and dressing each piece in our Norwich workshop so it arrives on site ready to fit. Commercial and residential jobs are both welcome.
Most jobs start from an architect's or designer's drawings, and we build to the sizes and details shown. If all you have is a sketch or a photo of something you like, we can help develop it into a design that can be fabricated. Where a piece carries load, the structural calculations come from your engineer.

Feature steelwork we make
From a single Juliet balcony to the metalwork for a full shop or restaurant fit out, each piece is made to measure from your drawings and finished to be seen.
Juliet balconies, walk-on balconies on posts or brackets, entrance canopies and door porches. We fabricate the frame, fixings and balustrade, ready for the glass, timber or roofing to go on. Load bearing pieces are made to your engineer's details.
Plate and box section stringers, folded or timber-ready treads, glass-ready posts, handrails and infill panels. We make each staircase as separate pieces in the workshop, then assemble on site so the lines and gaps come out even.
Steel framed glazing surrounds and screens, brackets for timber and glass, bar and counter frames, table and bench frames. Made for shopfitters, hospitality fit outs and homes, in mild or stainless steel.
From drawing to finished piece
Send us what you have. Architect's drawings, a designer's visual, a dimensioned sketch or photos of the opening all help. Tell us the material, the finish you want and where the piece is going, inside or out. An exposed spot outdoors needs a different finish from a hallway.
We give a free estimate and agree the price with you before we start. Anything that has to fit an existing opening is measured on site before we cut steel. Lead times depend on the design, the materials and any finish being arranged, so we give you a realistic date once we have seen the job.
Working to a fit out programme? Tell us your dates early and we will say plainly what we can and cannot make in time.
If you have no drawings
Plenty of homeowners and small businesses come to us with a photo and some measurements. That is fine. We talk through section sizes, fixings, how the piece will be carried in and fitted, and what finish suits the location, then help develop a design that can be fabricated.
We do not certify structures. If a balcony, canopy or staircase needs calculations or Building Control approval, those come from your structural engineer or designer, and we build to them.

Everything is made at our Norwich workshop and delivered to site. We fit across the city, from Thorpe St Andrew to Hethersett, along the A11 to Wymondham and Thetford, down the A140 to Diss, out to the coast at Great Yarmouth and Lowestoft, and on into Suffolk at Beccles, Ipswich and Bury St Edmunds.
On the coast, salt air is hard on steel, so galvanising under the top coat, or stainless steel, is worth thinking about. In a listed or historic setting, any consent needed is arranged from your side.

Yes. A dimensioned sketch or a few photos is enough to start. We help develop it into a design that can be fabricated and give you a free estimate. Anything structural still needs figures from your engineer.
Yes. We fabricate in mild steel and stainless steel, and TIG weld where a fine, neat joint is needed. Tell us the grade and surface finish your drawing calls for. For aluminium, ask us and we will say what we can do.
Primer, paint, galvanising and powder coating can all be arranged, in the colour your designer specifies. For outdoor pieces we usually suggest galvanising first. Tell us where the piece is going and we will talk through what suits it.
Yes. We deliver and install what we make across Norfolk and Suffolk, working alongside your builder or shopfitter. Supply only is fine too if your own team is fitting it.
A walk-on balcony or large canopy often does, such as beams, posts or brackets fixed back to the building. Your engineer decides that. We can fabricate the supporting steel along with the visible metalwork.
