Boat trailers, cradles, quay ladders and yard steel are awkward things to take anywhere, so we drive to them. Our mobile welding service covers Lowestoft and Oulton Broad, with a generator in the van for slipways and hardstandings that have no socket.

The power comes with usTIG for stainless

Lowestoft, Suffolk, about 27 miles south east of Norwich on the A146.

On site welding in north Suffolk

Work that lives beside the water.

A trailer with a boat sat on it is not coming to Norwich. The welder goes to it.

Swift Fabrication offers mobile welding in Lowestoft to the marine trades, the industrial estates and householders. Whoever comes is a fully qualified welder, carrying MIG, TIG and MMA equipment, a generator, hand tools and a selection of box section, angle, flat bar and plate, so a repair seldom has to wait on a trip to the steel stockholder.

If you run a boatyard at Oulton Broad, the job might be a launching trolley with a broken axle mount, or a cradle wanting new legs and pads. On the South Lowestoft Industrial Estate it could be a platform handrail or a bracket for new plant. At a house in Pakefield or Carlton Colville, a gate, or a boat trailer on the drive. All of them get a free estimate and a price you accept before we travel.

What we weld in Lowestoft

On site welding for Lowestoft boatyards, quays and estates.

Describe the item and say if it sits on hardstanding, a slipway, a quay or a factory floor. From that we can judge if it is a job for the van or one for the bench in Norwich.

01 / Boatyard and trailer steel

Boat trailers, cradles and yard trolleys.

Dunked, hauled out and left to dry, trailer frames and launching trolleys crack at the drawbar, the axle mounts and the winch post. We cut out the tired metal, weld in new box section and gusset the joint. Galvanised frames are ground clean first.

02 / Quay and estate

Quayside and industrial steelwork.

Access ladders, handrails, platform steps, cylinder stores and machine guards. Around the port, PowerPark and the estates we mend what is there and weld on the supports that new kit calls for.

03 / Stainless and home

Stainless fittings, gates and railings.

TIG welding suits stainless rails, brackets, tanks and pipework, in a boatyard or a food unit. For houses in Kessingland, Pakefield and Oulton Broad we mend steel gates, hinges, posts and railings. Aluminium, or any work on a hull itself, is a case of ask first.

Planning a Lowestoft visit

One trip down the A146, planned properly.

Lowestoft is a fair drive for us, so the more we know before setting off, the better the day goes. Send pictures of the damage and of the whole item, tell us the metal and its rough size, and mention if the boat, load or machine can be shifted clear.

There is no flat call out rate. The run out through Loddon and Beccles is part of the cost, along with time at your yard, steel and consumables. If two or three jobs are waiting, list them all, because sharing one journey between them is the cheapest way to use us. You see the price and accept it before the van leaves.

Tide note: if the job is on a slipway or against a quay wall, tell us the working window and we will time the visit to suit.

Before you get in touch

What we need to know first.

What is it, and what is it built from? Painted steel, galvanised and stainless each want different preparation and filler. Measure the wall of the tube or the plate if you can, and explain what broke and what load it was carrying.

About the place: yard name and postcode, where a van can stand, and who signs off hot work. Boatyards are full of things that burn, so say if there is fibreglass, fuel, gas bottles, timber or sheeting near the joint. We may ask for a boat to be moved.

Reaching north Suffolk

Lowestoft, Oulton Broad and the villages to the south.

Our road is the A146, leaving Norwich by Loddon, crossing the Waveney into Suffolk at Beccles and entering Lowestoft through Oulton Broad or Carlton Colville. It is about 27 miles each way, so work here is booked in advance.

Once in the town, the Gull Wing bridge makes it simple to get from the South Lowestoft Industrial Estate to the north side of the harbour, and Pakefield and Kessingland lie a little further south. A Beccles job can share the trip. Breakdown? 07495 409006 is answered 24/7.

Lowestoft welding questions

Questions from the harbour side.

Do you cover Oulton Broad and Kessingland?

Yes, and Carlton Colville and Pakefield too. They all lie at the far end of the same A146 run, roughly 27 miles from our workshop. Lowestoft work is booked ahead so the travel is used well, and the mileage is set out in your estimate.

Can you repair a boat trailer on site?

In most cases, yes. Cracked drawbars, axle mounts, winch posts, roller brackets and rotten cross members can be cut out and renewed at the yard or on your drive. It is easier and safer with the boat off, so tell us if that can be managed.

Do you weld stainless steel boat fittings?

We TIG weld stainless steel, so rails, brackets, frames and tanks are possible, ideally taken off the boat and set on a bench or stand. Send a photograph first. For aluminium, or anything structural on a hull, ask and we will say what we can take on.

Is a power supply needed at the boatyard?

No. A generator in the van runs the welding plant, which matters on hardstandings, slipways and the far end of a quay where there is nothing to plug into. If your unit has a suitable supply beside the job, mention it. Either way, please clear fuel, gas and anything flammable away from the joint before we arrive.

How quickly can you get to Lowestoft?

It is about 27 miles by the A146, and Beccles can be slow at busy times. Routine jobs are given a booked day. For a breakdown, phone at any hour and we will say when a welder can set off.
