Yard repairs for the A11 haulage corridor

Mobile welding in Attleborough

A trailer off the road earns nothing, and a loading bay with a bent dock plate slows every load behind it. Our mobile welding van runs down the A11 to Attleborough with its own power and mends the steel in your yard.

Power travels in the vanMIG, TIG and MMA

Attleborough, about 17 miles south west of our Norwich workshop on the A11.

On site welding beside the A11

Fixed in the yard, between loads.

Haulage and food distribution run to a timetable. The repair has to fit it.

Mobile welding in Attleborough mostly means steel that works hard for a living. Curtain side trailers, skeletal trailers, roll cages, dock levellers and yard barriers all take knocks from forklifts and reversing lorries. A fully qualified welder drives out from Norwich with MIG, TIG and MMA sets, a generator and plate and section in the van.

Whether you run a fleet from Haverscroft Industrial Estate, a food site at Bunns Bank or one livestock trailer from a smallholding at Great Ellingham, the terms do not change. Estimates are free and the price is settled before an arc is struck. If your customer insists on a coded welder, tell us. Yard gates too far gone to mend can be remade in our workshop.

Welded in Attleborough

A mobile welder for Attleborough yards, bays and farms.

Give us the fleet number or a description, say if it is loaded or empty, and when it is next due out. We will tell you if the repair fits in that gap.

01 / Trailers and bodies

Trailer chassis, decks and landing legs.

Cracked cross members, torn chequer plate decks, bent underrun bars, broken landing leg braces and buckled headboards. Each crack is ground to a vee, welded through and, where the section has fatigued, reinforced with a fish plate.

02 / Loading bays

Dock plates, bollards and barriers.

Around the loading bay we straighten and reweld dock leveller lips, bumper brackets, wheel guides, bollards, column protectors and pedestrian barriers, and refix loose platform handrails.

03 / Farms and Snetterton

Farm kit, race trailers and stainless.

Out at Old Buckenham and Banham it is grain trailers, loader brackets and gate hangings. Near Snetterton circuit it is race trailers, ramps and paddock equipment. Stainless for food sites is TIG welded. Aluminium bodies, ask us first.

How the visit is planned

Send a photo, name the gap, get a price.

Text or email pictures of the damage with something in shot for scale, and say where in Attleborough the yard is. From those we can usually judge the steel thickness, whether the trailer must be unloaded first and how long it will be out of service.

Seventeen miles of dual carriageway is an easy run, so travel is a small slice of an Attleborough estimate. Hours on the job, steel used and the welding process make up the rest. If you have three or four defects on different trailers, list them all and we will price one visit for the lot, which costs less than separate trips.

Yard note: stand the trailer on hard ground clear of pallets, shrink wrap and diesel tanks, with room for our van alongside.

Ahead of the visit

Details from the transport office.

Name the type of trailer or equipment, the maker if known, which member has failed and how it happened. Say if you believe it is mild steel, high tensile, stainless or aluminium. One wide picture and one close up let us pick the wire, rods and steel to bring.

Next, the yard: postcode, gatehouse procedure, opening times and where a van can stand. Food and distribution sites round Attleborough often want an induction and a hot work permit, so warn us in advance. Mention anything flammable nearby and any work above head height.

Where the van goes

Attleborough, Snetterton, Old Buckenham and Banham.

From Norwich we pick up the A11 at Thickthorn and pass Wymondham before turning off for Attleborough, so Haverscroft and Bunns Bank are reached without touching a back road. Snetterton business park and the circuit lie a few miles further down the same carriageway.

South Norfolk villages either side of the road, Great Ellingham, Old Buckenham and Banham among them, are covered on the same outing, and the van carries on into Suffolk and wider East Anglia when asked. If a breakdown cannot wait for a booked slot, ring 07495 409006 at any hour.

Attleborough questions

What Attleborough yards ask.

Can you weld a trailer while it is loaded?

Sometimes. It turns on the load and how close it sits to the weld. Food, packaging and anything that burns or taints has to come off first, and heat must be kept away from air lines and wiring. Send a photo and we will say before setting out.

Do you repair dock levellers?

We repair the steel: lips, deck plate, hinges, frames and bumper brackets. Hydraulics and controls stay with your service company. Tell us the make and what has bent or cracked, and isolate the unit before the welder arrives.

Do you cover Snetterton and the villages?

Yes. Snetterton circuit and its business park sit a few miles beyond Attleborough on the A11, and Old Buckenham, Banham and Great Ellingham are a short detour. If you typed welder near me from any of them, the same van and the same road serve you.

Are some trailer parts not safe to weld?

Yes, and we will say so. Axles, couplings, kingpins and any part the maker says must be replaced are left alone, however small the crack looks. Chassis rails, cross members, bodywork and brackets can normally be repaired soundly. If welding is the wrong answer you will hear it on the phone, not after a visit.

How soon can a welder get to Attleborough?

This is regular ground for us, roughly 17 miles down the A11. Planned repairs are booked for a day and hour that suits the yard. For a breakdown, ring whenever it happens and we will give you a time we can keep.
