Mobile welding in Great Yarmouth

Sea air eats steel. Handrails thin out, gate hinges seize and trailer frames rot from the inside. Our mobile welding van comes down the A47 to Great Yarmouth carrying the plant, the power and the new steel to put it right on the spot.

No mains supply neededMild and stainless

Great Yarmouth, about 20 miles east of Norwich along the A47 Acle Straight.

On site welding on the Norfolk coast

Rust decides most jobs out here.

By the sea, a weld is only as good as the metal left to weld it to.

Mobile welding in Great Yarmouth is rarely a clean break on bright steel. More often the part has been wasting away under its paint for years before it lets go. Our welder drives out from Norwich with a generator, MIG, TIG and MMA plant, grinders and fresh plate and section, ready to cut back to sound metal and rebuild from there.

That holds whether you run plant on South Denes, rent a unit at Harfreys or Gapton Hall, manage a holiday park up the coast or own a house one street back from the seafront. We check how far the corrosion runs before pricing, so your free estimate covers the whole repair and not only the crack you can see. You approve the figure first. Where a port or energy site wants a coded welder, ask.

Welded on site in Yarmouth

A mobile welder for the port, the estates and the seafront.

Let us know what it is, how long it has stood out in the weather and whether it is painted, galvanised or stainless. That settles how we prepare the joint and protect it afterwards.

01 / Port, plant and trailers

Plant, trailers and quayside equipment.

Skips, stillages, fork attachments, boat and plant trailers, ramps and storage frames get hard use around the harbour and the river. We mend cracked drawbars, torn plate and broken brackets, and we replace wasted sections instead of welding over rust.

02 / Rails and steps

Handrails, steps and platforms.

Salt finds the foot of every post first. We cut out rotten stanchions and baseplates, let in new steel, and repair stair treads, walkways and guarding on estates from Gapton Hall to Beacon Park.

03 / Gates and fencing

Gates and railings close to the sea.

Yard gates that have dropped, hinges rusted solid, railings eaten through along the bottom rail. The steel is repaired where it hangs. If a gate is past saving, our Norwich workshop can make the new leaves and posts, and galvanising can be arranged.

How a Yarmouth job works

Look past the paint, then price it.

Begin with photographs, and take them close. Flaking paint, rust staining and swollen seams tell us far more than a wide shot. Add what the item is, roughly how thick the steel was when new, and whether it is in Great Yarmouth, Gorleston or further up the coast.

The Acle Straight is the one direct road in, so we plan the run and try to clear everything on your list in a single trip. The estimate reflects the miles from Norwich, the hours on the job, the new steel and the process used. Asking costs nothing, and no sparks fly until you have said yes to the figure.

Coastal note: bare weld metal rusts fast in salt air. We can prime a repair before we leave, and zinc rich paint suits galvanised work.

Before you phone

What helps us load the van.

Material first: painted mild steel, galvanised or stainless. Next the size of the section, what has failed and how much metal round it still looks solid. If a screwdriver goes through it, say so, because that means new steel and not just weld.

Then access. Port and energy sites often need passes, inductions and hot work permits sorted out ahead, so allow time for those. Tell us how near the van can park, if the job is beside water or up high, and what is stored close by that could burn.

Places we reach from the A47

Great Yarmouth, Gorleston, Caister and Bradwell.

We come out from Norwich past Acle and over the marshes, which puts the Harfreys and Gapton Hall estates first on the route, with South Denes and the outer harbour a little further on. Beacon Park and Gorleston lie just across the river.

Caister, Bradwell and the holiday parks on that stretch of the Norfolk coast are covered on the same run. If a failure has stopped you working, there is no need to hold on for the morning. 07495 409006 is answered day and night, and you will get a plain answer on timing.

Great Yarmouth questions

Questions from the coast.

Do you cover Gorleston, Caister and Bradwell?

Yes. They are all part of the same trip down the A47 from Norwich, as is Acle on the way. Great Yarmouth is about 20 miles from our workshop, so visits are planned rather than passing calls, and the travel is shown in your estimate.

Can you weld steel that is badly rusted?

Only back to sound metal. Weld will not hold on thin, pitted steel, so we cut the wasted part away and let in new plate or section. If the rot has gone too far for a sensible repair we will say so and price replacement steel.

Can you weld galvanised gates and rails?

Yes. The zinc is ground off around the joint before welding, for the good of the weld and the welder, and the area can be coated with zinc rich paint afterwards. New steel for a seafront property can be sent away for galvanising, which we arrange.

Do you work on port and energy supply sites?

By arrangement, yes. Tell us early what the site asks for in passes, inductions, permits and welder coding, and we will confirm what we can supply. Our work is onshore: steelwork, plant and equipment in yards, sheds and on the quayside.

How fast can a welder get to Great Yarmouth?

It is roughly 20 miles, and the Acle Straight can crawl in summer. Planned work is booked for a day that suits you. For breakdowns, ring at any time and we will give you a realistic arrival.
