Made in our workshopIn Norwich

Bury St Edmunds, about 41 miles south west, down the A14.

Feature steel for a town centre setting

Metalwork for a town where the setting matters.

Near the abbey gardens and the timber framed streets, a new balcony or a shopfront bracket sits next to buildings people notice.

We fabricate architectural steel for shopfitters, architects, builders and homeowners across Bury St Edmunds. Each piece is cut, welded and dressed at our Norwich workshop, in mild or stainless steel, so it turns up ready to fit.

A good share of the enquiries we get from here involve the conservation area and its older buildings: a bracket under a shopfront, a replacement balcony, a screen for a cafe fit out, or a stair rail that has finally given up.

Where we work

Bury St Edmunds and Suffolk

Steel for the town's shops and homes

Architectural metalwork for the town centre and beyond.

A single bracket under a shopfront or the full metalwork package for a cafe refit, each piece comes from your drawing and is finished to be looked at.

01 / Balconies and canopies

Balconies and porches for older streets.

Juliet balconies, entrance canopies and door porches for houses close to the centre. We build the frame, fixings and balustrade, ready for glass, timber or a roof covering to follow.

02 / Stairs and balustrades

Replacement stairs where ironwork has failed.

Stringers in plate or box section, folded or timber-ready treads, glass-ready posts and infill panels, built as separate pieces and fitted where an old staircase needs taking out.

03 / Shopfronts and interiors

Screens, brackets and shopfront steel.

Glazing surrounds behind a shopfront, brackets for timber and glass, bar and counter frames for the cafes and restaurants around the market place, in mild or stainless steel.

From sketch to fitted steel

How a sketch becomes fitted steelwork.

Why choose our workshop?

Send what you already have: an architect's drawing, a note from the conservation officer, a sketch with sizes, or photos of the opening. Say what material and finish you want, because a shopfront needs a different answer to a hallway.

You get a free estimate and we agree the price first. Where a piece meets the conservation area we measure on site before cutting steel, and timing can turn on when the street can be worked in.

Working to a shopfitting programme? Tell us your dates early and we will say plainly what we can and cannot make in time.

No drawings to hand?

Made from a photo and a few measurements.

Shop owners and homeowners here often start with nothing more than a photo and rough sizes. We talk through the section, the fixings, how it gets carried in and what finish will suit an older frontage.

We do not certify structures and we do not handle listed building consent. Where a balcony or shopfront needs consent or calculations, that comes from your side and we build to whatever is agreed.

Metalwork near the abbey and beyond

Fitted across West Suffolk.

Every piece leaves our Norwich workshop and travels down the A14. We fit in the town centre, out at Moreton Hall and Suffolk Business Park, and on to Thurston, Stowmarket, Newmarket and Mildenhall.

Working near a listed building or inside the conservation area, the consent for the change sits with you or your architect. Once that is settled we build to it and suggest finishes suited to older brickwork.

Architectural steel questions

Metalwork questions for an older town.

Answers on drawings, materials, finishes and fitting near listed buildings, so you know what to expect from us.

Will a conservation area slow down my shopfront job?

It can affect timing rather than the steel itself. We build the bracket, frame or screen off site so it is ready to fit fast, while consent for the change is sorted by you or your architect beforehand.

Can steelwork match an older building?

Yes. We look at photos of the frontage, talk through section sizes and pick a finish that sits well against aged brick or render. TIG welding gives the neat joints a visible piece needs.

What finish suits steel near the town centre?

Primer, paint, galvanising and powder coating can all be arranged, and we will say which weathers best on an exposed shopfront. Your architect's chosen colour can usually be matched.

Can your team fit metalwork here as well as make it?

Yes. We deliver and fit what we make around Bury St Edmunds and the surrounding villages, working alongside your builder or shopfitter. A supply only order is fine if your own team is fitting it.

Does a Juliet balcony need steel behind it?

Often it does, with beams, posts or brackets fixed back into the building. That decision sits with your engineer, and we can fabricate the hidden support alongside the visible balustrade.
