Metal staircases in Attleborough

Add a floor and you need a way up to it.

A mezzanine in a warehouse, another storey on a self build. Attleborough keeps adding floors, and each one needs a stair.

Enquiries for steel staircases in Attleborough tend to begin with a floor that was not there before. A logistics firm puts a storage deck into its unit. A food business wants a way up to a new plant platform. A family at Great Ellingham is building their own house.

Whatever the floor, the stair is worked out from two levels and the room between them. We take the height from finished floor to finished floor, divide it into equal rises, and use the going your designer has given. Stringers, treads, any landing and the balustrade panels are then made as individual parts in Norwich, finished as arranged, and driven down the A11 to be bolted together where they stand.

Units, platforms and new houses

Give us the two floor levels, and we fill the gap.

Send the mezzanine supplier's layout, the architect's plans, or only the height between floors and a sketch of the space. We can help work a layout up for fabrication, and estimates are free.

01 / Mezzanine stairs

Stairs up to storage and office decks.

Straight and quarter turn flights to mezzanine floors in warehouse and trade units on Haverscroft and Bunns Bank. Chequer plate or folded pan treads, a top landing sized to the deck edge, and a foot set clear of racking aisles and forklift routes.

02 / Access stairs

Platform steps for food sites.

Short flights, step overs and stairs to plant platforms and tank tops for food processors around Attleborough and Snetterton. Galvanised mild steel, or stainless where the hygiene area calls for it, with handrails as drawn.

03 / Homes and self builds

House stairs and landing rails.

Steel staircases for new houses, self builds and extensions in Attleborough, Old Buckenham and Banham, with treads prepared for your joiner's timber. Landing balustrades and wall handrails, with bar, flat or glass-ready infill, can be part of one order.

The numbers are fixed before we cut

Pitch, rise, going and rail heights come off your drawing.

A warehouse stair and a house stair answer to different parts of the Building Regulations guidance, and a food site may add a standard of its own. Which rise, going, width, handrail height, infill gap and loading apply is for your designer, the mezzanine supplier's engineer or Building Control to say.

We make the steel to those figures. Swift Fabrication does not certify that it complies. What load a mezzanine edge or a timber floor can take from a stair is for your structural engineer to calculate. Where a drawing will be hard to make or to fit, you hear about it before steel is cut.

If the mezzanine comes from another supplier, send their drawing so our stair meets their deck edge.

Pricing an Attleborough stair

The few figures we price from.

The floor to floor height, the clear width wanted, how far the stair can run along the floor, and what it lands on at the top. Add the tread type, the finish, and whether forklifts or pallet trucks pass the foot. Drawings and phone photos both help.

Attleborough is a short run down the A11, so a measuring visit is easy to book. We measure once the deck or upper floor is in, because a slab that is 20 mm out alters every rise. Galvanising and powder coating are done by outside finishers and form a stage of their own, so leave room for that in your dates.

Also in Attleborough

The deck, the gates and the rails too.

Our fabricators also make mezzanine and platform steelwork, steel beams for house builders, and gates and railings for yards and driveways. Deliveries run along the A11 corridor to Attleborough, Snetterton, Great Ellingham and the south Norfolk villages in between.

A free estimate comes first, then a price agreed with you before any steel is ordered. Warehouse operators, builders and self builders are all welcome.

Attleborough stair FAQs

Asked by Attleborough firms and builders.

Can you make a stair for our mezzanine?

Yes. It can suit a deck that is already up or one still on order, working from the supplier's drawing or our own site measure. The stair arrives in pieces and bolts to the deck edge and the floor slab, so the unit carries on working around us.

Who confirms the stair meets the Regs?

Your designer and Building Control do. We fabricate to the rise, going, guarding heights and loadings they specify and we do not certify compliance ourselves, so have those figures agreed before you place the order.

Painted, galvanised or stainless steel?

In a dry warehouse or a house, primed and painted or powder coated mild steel is usual. Outdoors or in a washdown area, galvanised or stainless lasts longer. Finishes are arranged with outside specialists, so tell us where the stair will live.

Do you cover Snetterton, Banham and Old Buckenham?

Yes. All three are a few miles from Attleborough and under 25 miles from our Norwich base. Great Ellingham and the A11 corridor from Wymondham down to Thetford are covered as well.
