Steel erection in King's Lynn

Request an estimate

Frames for industrial units, port side buildings and Fenland farm sheds, organised as full days on site. King's Lynn is a long run from our workshop, so the steel goes over first and the crew turns up with everything it needs.

Planned as full daysSteel delivered ahead

King's Lynn, about 44 miles west of Norwich along the A47.

Structural steel installation, West Norfolk

At 44 miles, nothing can be left behind.

A forgotten cleat on a Norwich job costs ten minutes. Forgotten on a King's Lynn job, it costs most of a day.

Swift Fabrication carries out steel erection in King's Lynn for manufacturers, food producers, port users, builders and farmers across West Norfolk. Our steel erectors put up portal frames and unit extensions, mezzanines, platforms and stairs, and beams into existing buildings, all to the engineer's drawings.

We will be plain about the distance. A loaded lorry needs well over an hour each way on the A47, so Lynn cannot be treated like a job round the corner. The work is organised into full days, with as few trips as the job allows. That keeps travel from swallowing your budget and makes the programme easier to predict.

How a distant job is run

Steel erection in King's Lynn, planned in whole days.

Each trip has to earn its mileage. So the sequence, the plant hire and the price are fixed with you before the first lorry heads west.

01 / One thorough survey

Bases and access in one trip.

In a single visit we check bases and holding down bolts against the drawings, walk the delivery route and agree where steel will be stacked. If a base is out, your groundworker has time to correct it before a crew is booked.

02 / Steel arrives first

On site the day before we are.

Steel is loaded in Norwich in erection order, ticked off against the list along with its bolts, packs and fixings, and delivered ahead of the crew. Lifting plant is hired as near to the site as we can find it, so it is waiting when we arrive.

03 / Full days until done

Every day ends braced and safe.

The crew works full days, and none ends with a bay left unbraced. The frame is lined, levelled and plumbed, bolts are tightened, and we walk it with you before leaving. Coming back for one snag is a long round trip.

Checked in the workshop first

Problems found in Norwich, not in Lynn.

Before a frame leaves for West Norfolk, awkward connections are trial fitted on the workshop floor, hole positions are checked and every piece is marked to match the drawing. That takes time, but far less than a crew standing idle.

Our van carries welding plant, a generator, drills, spare bolts and packs, so a small alteration on site need not end the day. If you are buying steel from another fabricator and want it erected only, we ask for the drawings and the steel list early, for exactly the same reason.

RAMS are provided for site work. Port and factory sites have their own induction and permit rules, so send those with your enquiry.

The port, the estates and the Fens

Who builds in steel out here.

On the Hardwick and North Lynn industrial estates and around the Nar Ouse business area, the call is for unit frames, extensions, mezzanines and plant platforms for manufacturers and food firms. Near the port on the Great Ouse it is stores, canopies and frames wanting a coating fit for a tidal river.

Out in the Fens the jobs are grain stores, crop stores and machinery sheds. Fen ground can be soft, so foundations and the standing for a crane are matters for your engineer and groundworker.

Across West Norfolk

The A47, from one side of Norfolk to the other.

King's Lynn is about 44 miles from Norwich by way of Dereham and Swaffham. We also travel to Downham Market, Terrington, Dersingham and Hunstanton. For a lone beam or a small platform we will tell you if travel makes us poor value. A larger package carries the mileage far better.

Help us price it in one go: engineer's drawings, the site address, photographs of the bases and the way in, any plant already on site and the dates you must hit. Mobile welding and urgent call outs this far west are by arrangement. The estimate is free and the figure is agreed before anything starts.

King's Lynn questions

What West Norfolk customers ask our erectors.

Is King's Lynn too far for you?

No, but it changes how we work. Jobs are planned as full days with the steel sent over in advance, and travel appears in the estimate from the outset. On a very small job we will say so if somebody nearer would serve you better.

Will the steel turn up before your erectors do?

Normally, yes. Delivery a day or so ahead lets the crew start lifting first thing, not wait for a lorry held up on the A47. You will need somewhere firm and secure to stack it, and that spot is agreed at the survey.

Can you erect steel on Fen ground?

We can erect wherever the foundations and the standing for plant have been designed for the ground. On soft Fen soils that is work for your engineer and groundworker, and may mean larger or piled bases and crane mats. Tell us early, because it shapes the lift.

Do you cover Downham and Hunstanton?

Yes, with Dersingham, Terrington and the villages between. They are run the same way as King's Lynn: one proper survey, steel on site ahead of us, then full working days.
