Swift Fabrication Services Ltd is a welding and steel fabrication company with its workshop in Norwich, which makes city jobs our home ground. We fabricate structural steelwork for builders opening up terraces and semis, for refurbishment contractors in the centre, and for anyone fitting out a unit between Hellesdon and Broadland Business Park.
Our part is making the steel. Sizing it and certifying the structure is not: section sizes, connections and calculations belong to your structural engineer. What the city orders
Most work in the city falls into three groups: a beam or frame going into an existing house, steel for a commercial unit, or a platform or support inside a working building.
Steel beams for rear extensions, knock-throughs, bifold openings and loft conversions across Norwich, from the Golden Triangle out to Thorpe St Andrew. UB and UC sections cut to length, with end plates, cleats and bolted splices where the only way in is the front door.

Email the engineer's drawings and the steel is priced as a free estimate. Because we are in the city, a visit is easy to arrange, so if a beam must sit in an old wall or a new frame must pick up existing steel, we come out and take our own dimensions first.
Cutting, drilling and welding all happen at our Norwich workshop, and fiddly connections are trial fitted before they leave. House steel normally goes out primed. Galvanising, paint or powder coating can be arranged for anything left exposed. A single beam is a short run across the city, heavy sections come by HIAB lorry, and our team can set them in place for your builder.
City streets need thought. Tell us about permit parking, narrow terraced roads, rear alleys and whether a lorry can stop outside.
Plan around the build
On a Norwich extension, everything else waits for the steel. The back wall stays put until the beam has arrived, and the inspector will want to see it installed before it is boxed in. Give us your dates as soon as you have them and the fabrication can be slotted in to suit.
We need the drawings and calculation sheet, the address, the finish and your dates. In a conservation area or on a listed building, consents are for you and your designer to obtain, and we make what the approved drawings show. If the job names a standard or welder coding, say so and we will confirm what we can supply.

The engineer's drawing comes first: sections, lengths, connections and bearings. After that, photographs of the room or unit, the route the steel must take from the kerb, and anything that limits lifting, such as a finished floor or a low ceiling. If a builder's sketch is all you have, send that and we will say what is missing.

Usually, with some planning. A long beam can be made in two or three pieces with bolted splices, provided your engineer agrees the detail, then carried through the house and joined in position. Tell us the route in, the door widths and any tight turns.
No. Working out the size is for a structural engineer, and Building Control or your approved inspector will expect to see calculations. Bring us the finished drawing and we fabricate to it. If something looks hard to make or fit, we will flag it before you commit.
