Metal gates in Norwich, made to measure in our own workshop in the city. Railings for low front walls, side gates for terraces, driveway gates for the suburbs and yard gates for the estates. We make the steel and we hang it.

Made here in NorwichMeasured, made, hung

Norwich is our home city. The workshop, the welders and the van are all here.

Railings, side and driveway gates

Metal gates made in Norwich for the streets around us.

A terraced front in the city and a wide drive out at Taverham need very different gates, and neither is a stock size.

Swift Fabrication is based in Norwich, so metal gates for Norwich homes and businesses are built a short drive from where they will hang. That means railing panels for low walls, narrow side gates, driveway pairs and sliders, and yard gates for units from Hellesdon to Trowse.

Our part is the steel: the leaves, posts, hinges, latches, drop bolts and railing panels. Brick piers, walls, footings and any digging belong to your builder, and the motors and controls belong to a gate automation installer. Where the brickwork is sound we fix to it. Where it is not, we can make steel posts, and any frame can be built ready to take automation later.

From our bench to your boundary

Built a few miles away, in pieces, then hung.

Being local helps at both ends. We can call round to measure before any steel is cut, and the finished leaves, posts and panels have a short trip to site.

01 / Measure and make

Sizes checked on site, steel cut to suit.

Old city walls are rarely level or plumb, so we measure the opening ourselves. Frames are box section with flat, round or square bar infill, tacked and welded flat on the bench so a pair of leaves meets neatly in the middle.

02 / Finish

A coating that suits a city street.

Railings beside a pavement get knocked by bikes, bins and bags, so the coating has to be tough. Galvanising under a powder coat in black or another colour can be arranged, or primer and paint if you would rather touch it up yourself.

03 / Hanging

Fitted to the wall you already have.

We bring the finished pieces across the city and fix them to sound brickwork, copings or our own steel posts. Gates are packed, plumbed and adjusted until they swing clear of the path and the latch drops without a slam.

Getting a Norwich quote

A tape measure and a phone camera will start it.

Give us the clear width between the walls or piers, the height you have in mind and what the steel will fix to. On a sloping street, say which way the pavement falls, because a side gate that opens uphill has to clear the ground.

Pictures of the front of the house, and of any railings nearby that you like, are useful. If the property is listed or in one of the city's conservation areas, consent is for you to arrange, and we will build to the pattern that is approved. Mention early if the gates are going to be motorised.

Steel only, to be clear. We do not lay bricks, pour post foundations or supply motors. Your builder and your automation installer handle those, and we hand them the post centres, fixing heights and bracket positions.

Yard gates and boundary railings

Security gates for Norwich yards and estates.

A unit on Sweet Briar Road, the Airport Industrial Estate, Bowthorpe or Longwater often needs its yard closing off properly. We make swing and sliding gate frames in heavier box section, with fence panels to match, hung on steel posts.

Nearer the centre, railing panels are made to sit on a low wall, between piers or down a flight of steps, raked where the ground drops. And if a gate has sagged, seized or been clipped by a delivery van, we can repair it where it hangs or back at the workshop.

Norwich gate questions

Worth knowing before you order.

Can you put railings on my front wall?

Yes, if the wall and coping are sound. Panels are made to the length of the wall, with posts or fixing lugs to suit, and we drill and fix them on site. If the brickwork needs rebuilding first, that is one for your bricklayer.

Will you come and measure up?

Yes. Norwich is home, so a visit to measure is easy to arrange. An estimate can come from your own sizes and photographs first, then we confirm on site.

Do I need permission for gates in Norwich?

Sometimes. Height next to a road, listed buildings and conservation areas can all bring planning into it. That is for you to check with the council. We then make the gates or railings to whatever design is approved.

Can you make a driveway pair ready to automate?

Yes. We do not supply motors, but we build the frames stiff enough and put bracket plates where your installer wants them. Bring them in before we start cutting.
