Driveway gates for new build plots

Metal gates for a drive the developer left wide open.

Most new build plots are handed over with an open frontage: a block paved drive, a strip of turf and no gateposts at all.

Swift Fabrication makes metal gates for Wymondham homeowners who want to close that gap. Because nothing is there to hang from, a new build job usually means steel posts as well as the leaves, with a side gate or a run of low railings often added so the whole front matches.

Please note where our work begins and ends. We fabricate and install steel gate leaves, posts, hinges, latches, drop bolts and railing panels. We are not bricklayers or groundworkers, so piers, walls and the concrete around a post are for your builder or landscaper. Nor do we sell automation, but tell us the system you have chosen and the frame will be made ready for your installer to fit it.

What happens after you say yes

Drawn to your plot, welded, coated, delivered.

With only ten miles between Wymondham and the workshop, we can check sizes on your drive first, then build every post, leaf and panel as a finished part.

01 / Making

A design that suits the house style.

Modern estates tend to suit clean horizontal or vertical bars in a slim box section frame, while older houses take a traditional pattern with finials. Either way, each leaf is jigged flat and welded so the pair lines up across the top.

02 / Colour

Powder coated to match doors and windows.

Anthracite grey and black are popular on new houses because they pick up the window frames. We can arrange powder coating in most standard colours, with galvanising beneath it for a longer life. Primer and paint is available for a period look.

03 / Install

Hung without wrecking a new drive.

Once your builder has set the posts we made, we come back with the finished gates, take care of the paving as we work, hang and level the leaves, and fit the latch and drop bolt sockets. Railing panels are fixed on the same visit.

To get a quote moving

Check the deeds, then measure the opening.

Some newer estates carry covenants or planning conditions about front boundaries, so look at your paperwork first, as that side is yours to clear. Then send the width of the drive where the gates will go, the height you fancy and how steeply the drive falls to the road.

Photographs of the house front tell us a lot. Add a picture of any design you have seen on the estate or elsewhere. If you want the gates to open by remote, say so at the start, because the posts, frame stiffness and bracket plates all need settling with your installer before steel is cut.

Once more for clarity, we handle steel alone. Your landscaper or builder digs and concretes, and an automation company brings the motors. We give them post positions, heights above finished drive level and plate details.

Old Wymondham and the farms nearby

Railings and gates for the older end of town.

Near the Abbey and the market cross, period houses often have a low brick wall that would carry railings, or a carriage entrance needing a traditional pair. Any listed or conservation consent is for the owner to obtain, and we make what is approved.

Beyond the town, farms towards Hingham and Mulbarton need wide yard and field entrance gates, and units at Gateway 11, Ayton Road or Browick Road may want a secure yard gate. If you have a gate that drags or will not latch, we can repair and rehang it.

Wymondham area

Wymondham, Hethersett and the A11 villages.

Being so close, Wymondham is one of the easiest places for us to reach. We also hang gates in Hethersett, Hingham, Mulbarton and the villages on either side of the A11, all from the same South Norfolk run out of Norwich.

Email sizes and photographs and you will get a free estimate. We then visit to measure properly, and the final price is agreed between us before a single length of steel is cut.

New build gate questions

Common questions from new estates.

My plot has no gateposts. Can you help?

Yes. We make steel posts to carry the gates and tell your builder exactly where and how deep to set them. After the concrete has cured we return and hang the leaves. We do not do the digging or concreting ourselves.

Can the gates be automated later?

They can if we plan for it. We build the frame stiff enough and weld on plates for the arms or rams. The motors and wiring come from your chosen installer.

Can builders order railings for several plots?

Yes. For a builder or developer in Wymondham we can make repeat railing panels and gates to one pattern across a number of plots, delivered in batches as each frontage is ready. Send the drawings for a price.

How long does it take to make driveway gates?

It depends on the design, the finish and our workload, as coating is done by a specialist after welding. We give you a realistic timescale with your estimate.
